High Bidders was founded in 1984 by individuals with an idea and a desire to combine their resources to provide additional support for the low-end of the Junior Auctions at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™.

That goal has grown to include all areas where additional support is needed for Texas youth to meet their agriculture goals.  Members of our group canvass the barns in the days prior to the auctions interviewing parents and agriculture teachers to identify youth who have experienced extraordinary hardships or have overcome special challenges on their way to showing their animals.

We sponsor “Hard Luck” calves through the Calf Scramble committee so that those kids who are unable to catch can enjoy the experience as well, plus provide those scramblers with a cash award to help them off with their project.  We partner with other committees of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ to locate and identify deserving youth through various scholarship awards that align with our mission.

Our members support Texas youth and education, and do not need to be a member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ to enjoy fellowship at four meetings during the year and various fundraising events.  Some participate in planning and assisting in events, some seek donations, some barn walk and all have an opportunity to represent High Bidders at special events through drawings.  There is an opportunity for all to give their time and effort, and to see the direct result of that involvement.

For over 30 years, we have remained true to our philosophy and continued to grow in strength and commitment to those kids that just need a helping hand.
